CBX란?

What is CBX?

CBX(Cross Border Xpress)는 샌디에이고와 멕시코 티후아나 국제공항(TIJ)을 직접 연결하는 유료 육교 서비스다. 티후아나 공항에서 출발하는 항공편 탑승객만 이용 가능하며, 멕시코 국경을 통한 일반 입국과는 별도로 운영된다. 티후아나 공항은 칸쿤 등 멕시코 주요 도시로의 국내선 노선이 잘 갖춰져 있어, 샌디에이고 거주자나 남캘리포니아 방문자에게 실용적인 옵션이다.
CBX (Cross Border Xpress) is a paid pedestrian bridge connecting San Diego directly to Tijuana International Airport (TIJ) in Mexico. It’s available exclusively to passengers with flights departing from Tijuana airport. The airport offers extensive domestic Mexican routes — including to Cancún — making it a practical option for San Diego-area travelers.

Entering CBX & US-Side Security
CBX 건물에 들어서면 멕시코 항공사 체크인 부스들이 먼저 보인다. 이곳은 아직 체크인을 하지 않았거나 수하물 태그가 필요한 승객들을 위한 창구다. 온라인 체크인을 이미 마친 경우라면 여기서 따로 할 일은 없다. 바로 이곳이 예전에 FMM(멕시코 입국신고서)을 작성하던 구역이기도 한데, 이번에는 그런 서류 작성 코너가 완전히 사라져 있었다.
As you enter the CBX building, the first thing you’ll see is a row of Mexican airline check-in booths. These are for passengers who haven’t checked in yet or need baggage tags. If you’ve already checked in online, there’s nothing to do here. This is also where FMM entry forms used to be filled out — but on this visit, that station was completely gone.

부스들을 지나 안쪽으로 들어가면 CBX 티켓과 보딩패스를 스캔하는 입장 게이트 영역이 나오는데, 게이트 영역에 들어서기 전에 직원이 먼저 여권을 간단히 확인한다. 여권 확인 후 게이트로 진입하면 “US Citizens” 와 “Other Countries” 로 나뉜 스캔 게이트가 보인다. 아내가 한국 국적이라 어느 쪽으로 들어가야 하는지 직원에게 물어봤더니, 국적에 상관없이 같은 게이트로 들어가면 된다고 했다. 실제로 게이트 구분이 큰 의미는 없는 것 같았다.
Past the booths, you’ll reach the entry gate area — but before you scan anything, a staff member does a quick passport check. Once through, you’ll see the scanning gates divided into “US Citizens” and “Other Countries.” We asked whether my wife — a Korean passport holder — needed to use a different gate. The answer was no: everyone uses the same gate regardless of nationality. The division doesn’t seem to make much practical difference.

스캔 순서는 따로 정해져 있지 않은 것 같다 — CBX 티켓과 보딩패스 둘 다 스캔하면 통과된다.
The scan order doesn’t seem to matter — just scan both your CBX ticket and boarding pass and you’re through.
게이트를 통과하면 미국 측 짐 검사가 이어진다. 큰 짐만 X-ray를 통과하는 간략한 형태로, 일반 공항 보안 검색과는 다르다. 검사를 마치면 티후아나 공항으로 이어지는 긴 육교 복도를 걷게 된다.
Past the gate, there’s a brief baggage check on the US side — only larger bags go through X-ray, much simpler than a standard airport screening. After that, you walk a long enclosed corridor across the bridge into Mexico.

멕시코 입국 심사
Mexican Immigration

긴 복도를 걸어가면 멕시코 입국 심사 줄이 나온다. 줄이 꽤 길 수 있으니 시간 여유를 두는 것이 좋다.
After the corridor, you’ll reach the Mexican immigration queue. Lines can be long, so build in extra time.

7박 이상 체류 시 주의: CBX는 육로 입국으로 분류되기 때문에 체류 기간이 7박을 초과할 경우 INM 비용을 별도로 내야 한다. 2026년 기준 약 983 MXN (약 $54 USD). 예를 들어 토요일 입국 후 다음 주 토요일 출국하는 7박 8일 일정이라면 해당된다. 참고로 비행기로 입국하는 경우엔 이 비용이 항공권 가격에 이미 포함되어 있다. 입국 심사 줄 근처에 키오스크가 설치되어 있으니 줄을 서기 전에 미리 확인할 것.
Important for longer stays: Since CBX is classified as a land border crossing, an INM fee applies if your stay exceeds 7 nights — approximately 983 MXN (around $54 USD) as of 2026. For example, if you arrive on a Saturday and depart the following Saturday (7 nights, 8 days), the fee applies. Note that for air travelers, this fee is typically included in the airfare. Look for the payment kiosks near the immigration queue and handle it before you get in line.

입국 심사 후 ~ 탑승 게이트까지
After Immigration — To the Departure Gates
입국 심사를 마치면 멕시코 항공사 수하물 드롭오프 구역으로 나온다. 이곳은 CBX 승객 전용으로, Aeromexico, Volaris, Viva Aerobus 등 주요 항공사가 여기서 위탁 수하물을 받는다. 체크인은 이미 된 상태에서 짐만 맡기는 곳이므로, 대부분의 승객들이 이곳에서 수하물을 드롭오프하게 된다.

After clearing immigration, you’ll enter the CBX-exclusive baggage drop-off area. Major airlines including Aeromexico, Volaris, and Viva Aerobus accept checked baggage here. Since check-in is already complete at this point, this is where most passengers drop off their luggage.

보안 검색대 줄을 기다리는 동안 커다란 전광판에서 항공편 번호와 게이트 번호를 확인할 수 있다. 별도로 게이트를 찾아 헤맬 필요 없이 이때 미리 확인해두면 편하다.
While waiting in the security line, look up at the large departure board — it displays flight numbers and gate assignments. A good time to check your gate so you’re not scrambling after security.

CBX 입장 시 미국 측에서 받는 간단한 검사와 달리, 티후아나 공항 측 보안은 일반 국제공항과 동일한 정식 검색이다. 노트북, 액체류 등 일반 공항 규정을 그대로 적용하면 된다.
Unlike the brief check on the US side of CBX, the Tijuana airport security is a full standard screening. Apply the same rules as any international airport — laptops out, liquids in a bag, etc.

탑승 게이트 전 식당가가 꽤 잘 갖춰져 있어 탑승 전 식사나 간식을 해결하기 좋다.
There’s a solid stretch of restaurants before the gates — a good spot for a meal or snack before boarding.
